Much more than just dog grooming

Working at Bubbles Pet Spa I always get asked the same question: “How often should I groom my dog?” and I always respond the same answer, “about once a month.” Your dog may not necessarily be filthy dirty and need a haircut every month, but there are other services we do with a basic hand bath that ensures for a healthy pet. These services like, nail trimming, ear cleaning, sanitary trimming and pads trimming, can prevent future health problems. Some problems like ear infections can be prevented by regular cleaning and inspection, saving you money in future veterinary costs. Below are the services we perform for a basic dog grooming or cat grooming and that if not done regularly can have worst health consequences:

For starters, we trim your dogs nails. If you let your dogs nails get too long it could cause the blood vessel or “quick” inside the nail to grow too long, causing problems as the dog grows older. Also, listening to your pet’s nails crackle across the hardwood floors when your trying to sleep is no fun. With a cat grooming, the nail trim can prevent scratching on furniture or other fixtures. Most importantly keeping both your dog’s and cat’s nails trimmed is safe and can prevent injuries to yourself and others.

We clean your pets ears and pluck hair from ear canal if necessary. This ensures for a healthy ear and can avoid ear infections in the future. Dogs with hanging ear flaps, like a cocker spaniel is prone to ear infections and regular dog grooming is vital. These ears can be a breeding ground for bacteria from the lack of air circulation and humidity. Our ear cleaner has an antibacterial that will dry the ear canal and avoid these kind of issues. When dog grooming a smaller breed like a Bichon or a Maltese, hair will grow inside their ear canal. These types of dogs need their ears plucked regularly to avoid infections and hearing problems.

We check for fleas and other skin problems. Trying to see your dogs skin underneath all that hair can be a real challenge and almost impossible for breeds like Huskies. But with dog grooming and cat grooming at Bubbles Pet Spa, we use a velocity dryer that opens the coat and allows us to find underlying skin problems, like: dry skin, skin irritations, infections, fleas, thorns, ticks, etc…

We give your dog two baths on every visit. Many other grooming salons and veterinarians provide only one bath for your pet, but at Bubbles Pet Spa we believe that one bath is not enough to cut through all that grime. This practice allows for a cleaner dog and will make the dog grooming last much longer. Also, our cat grooming services can help people suffering with allergies. Cat grooming reduce the amount of dander and allergens, which is a chemical residue left from a cats’ saliva when they lick themselves.

We trim your pets hair in-between their toes. Often times we find burs and tar stuck in the toes. When a bur gets stuck in your dogs toes and is left unattended, it can penetrate the skin and cause infections.

We trim their sanitary area. The last thing you need is extra hair to carry feces and bacteria. This is a must if you are the type of person that can’t let your dog sleep on the floor.

We brush away dead hair. Every dog and cat needs regular brushing, this stimulates the coat and allows for a strong beautiful hair. This service also prevents your pet from matting and tangling which can be painful for your pet. We offer a de-shedding treatment for dogs and cats that are “blowing their coat” for the summer. The de-shedding service can reduce shedding up to 80% and costs $15 – $20 more than the basic dog grooming service.

You can also try our teeth brushing service for an extra $8, this service is an upgrade to the basic dog grooming services. It will prevent tartar build up and provides your pet with fresh breath for unlimited kisses.

We do all these services with a basic dog grooming and cat grooming visit at Bubbles Pet Spa. Our dog grooming services are divided into three categories, The Hand Bath, The Tune-Up and The Styling service. I recommend to do at least the Hand Bath service once a month so we can take good care of your pet.
